SUMMARY:DV Survivor Back to School Campaign
DESCRIPTION:Help Domestic Violence Survivors and Their Children With Back to School Needs \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDonate Note\n\n\n\n\nEvery child deserves to walk into a new school year feeling confident\, prepared\, and full of hope. Yet\, for many children whose families are escaping domestic violence\, the start of school comes with fear\, uncertainty\, and impossible financial choices. \n\n\n\nAt On The Wings of Angels\, we work with domestic violence survivors who are rebuilding their lives from the ground up. Many have fled with only the clothes on their backs. They are working tirelessly to create safety for their children while trying to afford rent\, utilities\, groceries\, transportation\, and the countless expenses that come with a new school year. \n\n\n\nThrough our Back to School Fundraising Campaign\, your generosity will help provide backpacks\, school supplies\, clothing\, shoes\, lunch boxes\, calculators\, technology\, extracurricular fees\, and other essential items children need to begin the school year with dignity and confidence. \n\n\n\nEvery donation\, no matter the amount\, reminds a survivor and their children that they are not walking this journey alone. It tells a child\, “You matter. Your dreams matter. Your future matters.” \n\n\n\nWhen a child has the tools they need to succeed\, they can focus on learning instead of worrying. When a parent no longer has to choose between paying the electric bill or buying school supplies\, they can breathe a little easier. And when an entire community comes together\, healing becomes possible. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we can help survivors and their children begin this school year not defined by the abuse they escaped\, but by the hope that lies ahead. \n\n\n\nThank you for believing in second chances. Thank you for helping us remind these families that their community is standing beside them every step of the way.

SUMMARY:Grief and Domestic Violence
DESCRIPTION:The Things We Grieve. What We Lost. What We Found. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister Now!\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a compassionate panel conversation exploring the hidden grief connected to domestic violence\, trauma\, survival\, family estrangement\, lost years\, and healing. \n\n\n\n📅 Thursday\, August 27\, 2026🕕 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM📍 Walsh College3838 Livernois RdTroy\, MI 48083 \n\n\n\nWhen we talk about domestic violence\, we often talk about leaving. We talk about safety\, survival\, resilience\, and rebuilding. But there is a part of the journey that is rarely discussed: grief. \n\n\n\nThe truth is that domestic violence creates countless losses\, many of which never receive acknowledgment. Survivors grieve years that were stolen\, relationships that ended\, opportunities that were missed\, innocence that was taken\, and futures they once imagined for themselves. They grieve the versions of themselves they might have become had trauma never entered their story. \n\n\n\nGrief also does not belong only to survivors. \n\n\n\nChildren grieve the loss of safety and stability. Family members grieve broken relationships and complicated dynamics. Friends grieve as they witness the pain of those they love. Advocates and communities carry the weight of stories that forever change them. \n\n\n\nThe ripple effects of domestic violence extend far beyond a single individual\, touching entire families and communities in ways that are often unseen. \n\n\n\nJoin On the Wings of Angels on Thursday\, August 27\, 2026\, from 11:00am-2:00pm at Walsh College for an intimate and meaningful conversation exploring the many layers of grief connected to domestic violence. \n\n\n\nTogether\, we will create space for honesty\, healing\, reflection\, and hope as we examine not only what has been lost\, but also what can be found in the aftermath of trauma. \n\n\n\nThis thoughtfully curated experience will feature an expert panel moderated by Lauren Edwards\, a local news anchor and trusted community voice. \n\n\n\nPanelists include grief poet and licensed therapist Sara Rian; Licensed Professional Counselor Julie Weatherhead\, founder of Weathervane Counseling & Consulting; and MiVida Burrus\, MBA\, Senior Director of Development at Avalon Healing Center and longtime advocate for survivors and community healing. \n\n\n\nThroughout the conversation\, we will explore the hidden grief survivors carry long after abuse ends\, family estrangement and complicated grief\, the impact of trauma on identity and self-worth\, the grief experienced by children and loved ones\, and the role community plays in healing. \n\n\n\nWe will also discuss how grief and healing are not opposites\, but often walk hand in hand. \n\n\n\nGuests will be welcomed into a warm and supportive environment intentionally designed to foster comfort and connection. Soft ambiance\, candles\, florals\, comfort items\, and thoughtful touches throughout the space will create an atmosphere of care and reflection. \n\n\n\nLunch and dessert will be provided. \n\n\n\nWhether you are a survivor\, loved one\, advocate\, professional\, or community member\, this event offers an opportunity to better understand the many forms grief can take\, and to be reminded that none of us are meant to carry it alone. \n\n\n\nHealing does not erase grief; healing teaches us how to carry it differently.
